ISCGB WORKING TEST Special Beginners – 25/06/2006 Article by Keith Wain & Julie Kelly
We wanted a gundog. Had a Spaniel and they are hard work and barmy. Lets have a retriever. Julie had had a Golden Retriever called Candy for Christmas when she was just nine years old and loved her to bits. She had Candy for fourteen years and didn’t want to spoil the memory, so she wanted something different. We had started to settle on a Chocolate Lab when a friend introduced us to the world of Spinone. We read it all, Kennel Club website, ISCGB website, and all the others, and the more we looked, and the more we read, the more it became apparent a Spinone was for us. This was spring 2002. We searched around and found two litters of puppies. One in Hampshire, and one in Conway in North Wales, which is about an hours drive for us. Before we knew it, we were on our way to view the puppies. Only looking mind! Should never buy from the first litter you see! Four weeks later we were driving home from North Wales with a little blonde bundle on Julie’s knee. Iolyn Porth Llwyd, or Dino to his friends, had arrived.

My young Spinone, Toby, and I had a long weekend on the grouse moor, firstly joining a small team of dogs and handlers counting the grouse, followed by two days of training.

ISCGB Grouse Pointing Test for HPRs 19/03/2016
The Italian Mob Training Group
Training days are held on the last Sunday of each month.
This year it starts on January 25th at Brettanby Manor, Richmond, North Yorkshire, DL10 6HF. Session starts at 11am, finish around 4pm.
Coffee, cake, hot soup and crusty bread available.
Trainers: Mrs Penny Pickstone teaching HPR, Mr Ryan Kay teaching obedience.
Dummy launcher and cold game available for dogs at this stage of their training.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Michelle Hurrell and Sonarbra Appiani (Drizzle) who competed in Leicestershire Gundog Society’s 1st Grouse Pointing Test on Rosedale Moor, North Yorkshire on July 24th.
Judges were Mrs Maureen Nixon and Mrs Penny Pickstone. 13 dogs had a run, 6 grades were given – 4 good and 2 very good. Michelle and Drizzle got a grade of Very Good. This is their 3rd Grouse Pointing Test and their first grade. Michelle is very pleased with Drizzle, its been hard work training him but she loves it.
Korthals Griffon Club Spring Pointing Test
The Korthals Griffon Club held their Spring Pointing Test at Catton Hall near Burton on Trent on 1st May 2010, working on Spring Wheat.
There were 16 dogs running & Ingrid Moyser’s Sanjika Abbracci (Flyn) pointed & flushed partridge and was graded “ Very Good”. Rob & Sue Blacker-Kyle’s Lucoru Midnight Jet (Jago) was the only junior in the awards, hunting & pointing partridge and was graded “Good”. The only other 2 dogs graded were GSPs, so an excellent day for the Spins, well done!
The judges were Alan Hender (Wirewolf) & Richard Herbert (Dallandor).
ISCGB Beginners Hunting Day
at Hampton Estate, Elstead, Surrey
Limited places with priority given to Italian Spinone, spare places will be filled with members with other breed of dogs.
Date: Saturday 2 April 2016 – finish approx. 3 pm
Timings: 9.00 am – This is a meeting point to then all move on in convoy.
It has been drawn to my attention that there are three new Country/Game Fairs in the calendar this year.
In order to build up my bank of working Spinoni owners, and in anticipation of the organisers putting on gundog parades and/or gundog breed displays, I am asking for volunteers to represent Italian Spinoni at these events.
